Coherent Light was born long before the name was created. It was born in my earliest years and nurtured by my desire to see women smoke. Given the limitations of light, smoke and film it became important for me see the thick creamy whorls that a sensual smoker would jet from her lips.

There were many disappointments over the years when I ordered custom work from soul less people. I decided that since I must be the only person on the planet that liked to watch women smoke that I would have to make the images by myself for myself.

Several years later word trickled down to me that I was not the sole smoke lover on this world. I sent copies of my work to my new friends. They seemed to like it. From there my self-indulgent little hobby officially became Coherent Light. If for no other reason than because someone had to worry about the smoke.

It’s obvious that our preferences are defined by the culture that raised us. When we are stirred by an image it’s because there is power in the shape, color and action of that image. It may be powerful only to us. But, it has the ability to change our immediate mood and perception. That is why I spend time working on images of this type. Smoking is a cultural behavior that (for all practical purposes) originated in America. In my mind, it reached it’s peak in the forties and fifties. Before street corner porn and 1-900 there was seduction. That is the allure of Smoking Imagery. The look in a woman’s eye when she takes a deep drag, rivets you with her stare, and let’s the smoke curl from her lips.

Perhaps the most important thing to know is that as the owner and photographer I tend to look at things from the smoke lover’s perspective. It’s the only one I know. Consequently, you won’t see fake smokers, cigarette puffers or other artifice. If you have questions about the work you’ll know I’m willing to answer as best I can. And finally, you won’t be treated as if your money was the only reason you exist.

Take care & enjoy the images
